Tumblr: Social Networking Website & Microblogging Platform

Tumblr was founded in 2007 as a microblogging platform and social networking website. It was founded by David Karp and owned by Yahoo! Inc. With Tumblr, it allows people to post content and other multimedia to a short form blog. It also enables users to follow other Tumblr users while also making their blogs private. Most of Tumblr’s features are easily opened on the dashboard interface where posts of followed blogs appear and the option to post content.

So, how can business minded people make use of this microblogging platform and social networking website into their advantage?

  • Knowing your target audience – Tumblr is currently being used by visitors who are below 34 years old and 52% of them are male. If this fits right into your target market, then go right ahead and make use of Tumblr as a sales and advertising tool or simply to generate leads and generate interest in your services and products.
  • Imagery – if you have the time and energy to invest on posts that deal heavily in imagery whether photoshopped, straight up photography, infographic, or animated GIF, then using Tumblr is a wise choice. And if your brand, service, or product is image based Tumblr would be a great tool to expose your business because Tumblr’s 14 million daily posts are basically image-based and people tend to share imagery more often.
